The YouTube Plugin enables you to automatically plug in and sync your YouTube channel or a single video.
Pro Tip 1: Using Folders to Organize Your Content
If you have multiple YouTube plugins for feeds or single videos, you can use the Folder Plugin to categorize them into a master plugin.
Pro Tip 2: Manual Customization
Even if you have feeds, you may want to manually customize your content by adding video and audio to the same item, for example. To do so, check out the Media Center Manual Plugin.
Pro Tip 3: Using the WYSIWYG
Use the WYSIWYG to embed images, video, and forms. Check out the “Working with the WYSIWYG” tutorial video to get more information and best practices.
Hi there! And welcome to our YouTube Plugin video.
If you haven’t done so already, please watch our System Overview Video first before continuing. It lays down all of the plugin basics you’ll need for this video.
Now, onto the YouTube Plugin.
- This plugin syncs up a YouTube channel or video to your app.
- You can use this to showcase your videos, whether you have only one commercial video or you upload videos weekly.
Creating a YouTube Plugin
To add a YouTube plugin to your app, go to Plugins and Add Plugin. Find the YouTube Plugin by searching for it, clicking add, then naming it. If you’d like to also add this plugin to your Side Menu, you can simply check this box. If not, no worries, we’ll go over how to add it to the Side Menu later on in the video.
You’ll see here that there are two tabs, Content and Design.
Let’s start with Content.
Content Type is where you decide to sync in your entire channel feed or just one video.
This is up to you and what your YouTube channel is like. If you, say, run a small business selling furniture and have one commercial for your store, then selecting Single Video would be the best option. If you’re a content creator of some sort and you’re incredibly active on YouTube, then selecting Channel Feed might be the best option. Since you can have as many plugins as you’d like, you can even two separate YouTube plugins: one that features your entire feed and the other that features only one video — perhaps your newest or best video.
Under that is where you’ll be copying and pasting in the link to your account or video. After doing that, just click Validate. You should see your videos update in the emulator on the right.
Under that is the Image Carousel section. If you click on Add Image, you can select any photos in your media library to insert into your YouTube. If you’d like to upload an image, just click “upload image”. You can use this space for your YouTube channel art, or your business’ logo. You can learn more about using the Media Library by clicking here.
Text is a section powered by our Text WYSIWYG plugin. Use this space to type in your channel description or a brief introduction to your video. You can also insert images and format your text however you’d like. For more information on using this section, feel free to check out our video here.
Now let’s move onto the Design tab, starting with Item List Layout. This determines how your videos are laid out. We have 4 that you can choose from.
Item list background image is a background that will appear behind this initial list screen. Once you click through on a video, the next screen is the item details page. The background for this screen is controlled by the Item Details Background Image.
We separated the two to give you the option of choosing different backgrounds for either screen. Pro tip: just make sure whatever background you choose doesn’t clash with your text. You still want your users to be able to read what’s on the screen.
Adding the YouTube Plugin to Your App
Congratulations! Your YouTube plugin is now all filled out and ready to go. However, if you didn’t add it to your side menu or create it within a Folder, it is not yet accessible to your users. You will need to add it to the app on the Home Plugin, in a Folder Plugin, and/or to the Side Menu. If you already know how to do this, feel free to skip this next section.
If you have the Launcher or Folder Plugin selected for your Home Plugin, you can add it to the Home Plugin by clicking on Home Plugin. Once you’re there, scroll down and click “Add Plugin Instance”. Now find the Plugin you created by searching for the title you gave it, selecting it, and clicking “Apply” at the bottom.
To add it to a Folder Plugin, navigate to any Folder Plugin you’ve created and click on “Add Plugin Instance”, then search for the title you gave it, select it, and click “Apply” at the bottom.
To add it to the Side Menu, go to Plugins then Side Menu, click on “Select Plugin Instance” and, you guessed it, search for the title you gave it, select it, and click “Apply” at the bottom
Your YouTube Plugin is now accessible within your app. Thank you so much for watching. Be sure to check out our other Help Videos and we’ll see you next time!
